On 22 July 2010, the Government announced its intention to abolish the Agricultural Wages Board and to take measures to bring agricultural workers within the scope of the National Minimum Wages Act. EFFP has recently completed a piece of work in partnership with Defra and the Fruit and Vegetable Task Force to review the fresh produce sector and the role of Producer Organisations (POs) within it. The final report contains a number of key recommendations for the industry which we are now discussing with fresh produce businesses across the UK. A recent survey of 70 senior agri-food executives conducted by English Farming and Food Partnerships (EFFP) has indicated that over 90% of the respondents were increasingly confident about the future of their businesses and 70% plan to invest significant sums in their businesses over the next two years.
